SAIC-GM, General Motors’ passenger-vehicle joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp., plans to build the Buick Electra E4 full electric sedan at its Ultium plant in the central Chinese city of Wuhan.
The Buick Electra E4 is likely to be the second model to be produced at SAIC-GM’s Wuhan Ultium plant.
The 5-seat sedan is 4,818 mm long, 1,912 mm wide and 1,580 mm or 1,581 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,954 mm, according to information the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the regulator of China’s auto sector, posted on its website on Wednesday.
It is powered by a 180 kW electric motor and boasts a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
On December 28, SAIC-GM announced the opening of the Wuhan Ultium assembly plant.
The first product assembled at the Wuhan Ultium plant is the Buick Electra E5. The electric crossover goes on sale in China sometime in the first quarter, SAIC-GM said.
The Wuhan factory, constructed at SAIC-GM’s production site in Wuhan, is the joint venture’s second Ultium plant.
In October, SAIC-GM opened the first Ultium plant at a major production site in Shanghai. The first vehicle produced at the factory is the Cadillac Lyriq crossover.
SAIC-GM plans to roll out more than 10 Ultium-based models across various brands and segments over the next five years. In 2023 alone, it will launch sales of four Ultium-based models, the company added.
