Retail sales of new passenger vehicles surged 41 percent in the first three weeks of May as the market continued to rebound from the same pandemic-hit period last year, according to the China Automobile Dealers Association.
Roughly 1.05 million new sedans, crossovers, SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles were delivered across China over the 21-day period, the trade group said on Wednesday.
Electrified models continued to penetrate China’s passenger vehicle market at a fast clip, with combined sales of full electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles soaring 109 percent to some 372,000 in the first weeks of May.
As of May 21, retail sales of new passenger vehicles industrywide gained 3 percent to top 6.94 million.
In the same period, EV and plug-in hybrid volume jumped 44 percent to approach 2.22 million, according to the CADA’s tally.
