Xu Heyi, former chairman of BAIC Group Co., a Beijing-based state-owned automaker, is facing a criminal investigation, the Beijing municipal government’s anti-corruption body said on March 31.
Xu is suspected of “having severely violated disciplines and laws”, the city government’s commission for discipline inspection said, without disclosing additional details about the probe.
Xu, previously the deputy chief for the city of Beijing’s commission for economic affairs, joined BAIC in 2002 as chairman of its passenger-vehicle joint venture with Hyundai Motor Co.
He was promoted in 2007 to be chairman of BAIC, a position he held until July 2020 when he retired from the company at the age of 63.
BAIC produces cars, buses and heavy-duty trucks for its proprietary brands. In addition to Hyundai, it runs a passenger-vehicle partnership with Mercedes-Benz.
