Cadillac XT4-sized electric crossover spotted under wraps

Cadillac's lineup of electric vehicles appears set to expand again.

Photographers have captured a camouflaged vehicle, believed to be a new small Cadillac EV similar in size to the compact XT4, while road testing. It appears to slot below the Cadillac Lyriq midsize electric crossover in size.

The vehicle looks to share design elements with the Lyriq, including front and rear lighting features. Photographers said they observed the upper rear vertical lights acting as turn signals.

There also are similarities to the gasoline-powered XT4, which will be freshened for 2024. Cadillac has said the updated XT4 takes tech cues from the Lyriq, the brand's first EV, which will be joined by the ultraluxury Celestiq electric sedan in 2023.

A Cadillac spokesperson declined to comment on future products, but said in a statement that "the XT4 continues to be a top-selling vehicle in its segment and remains an important part of Cadillac's global portfolio."

The spokesperson added that when the updated luxury compact crossover goes on sale this year, "the new XT4 will continue to grow momentum for the brand as we move towards an electric portfolio in 2030."

Automotive News has reported that Cadillac is expected to launch an XT4-sized electric crossover in 2024, to be built at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe assembly plant in Mexico.

Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions, said there is a "family similarity" between the new EV and the XT4 and Lyriq.

The upcoming electric crossover stretches out the compact look of the XT4, which should offer more cargo space and interior room, he said.

"It's definitely a much more mature design than the XT4," Fiorani added.

Rory Harvey, vice president of global Cadillac, said in February that the brand will reveal three more EVs this year that should begin production next year, though he declined to share details about the vehicles or their segments. That would give Cadillac at least five EVs going into 2025, including the Lyriq and the Celestiq.

A possible three-row electric Cadillac was spotted under wraps in February. Automotive News has reported that a large electric crossover should launch in 2024, while electric versions of the Escalade and Escalade ESV — to be called the IQ and IQL — are expected in 2024 and 2025.

The brand plans to move to an all-electric lineup in North America by 2030.
